Rainbows at Niagara

Sometimes in late afternoon when the sun is going down, you see a rainbow at Niagara Falls. I had never seen this before, so this was a real highlight for me when we were there. Rainbows happen when the sunlight beams hit raindrops (or mist in this case) and they separate into different colours. The mist was actually condensing and coming down on us in raindrops.

It was beautiful to see, especially with the sunset that was only lighting the American side of the falls.

According to the Bible, God gave us the rainbow as a reminder of His promise that He would not flood the entire world again. Whenever I see it, I am reminded  that we have a Creator who loves us.

Whenever I bring clouds over the earth
and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
I will remember my covenant ...
never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
Genesis 9:14,15

Niagara in the Winter

We were in Niagara Falls, Ontario last week and had a great time. We have seen it several times in the summer, but have never seen it in the winter, so it was very interesting.

Splendid and majestic is His work.
And His righteousness endures forever.

Eastern Wild Turkey Feather

We found a turkey feather last summer, and I've been meaning to take some photos of it. We've had a flock of turkeys in the area, and occasionally see them on our neighbour's property, the road, and sometimes on our own. One of these days I may be able to get a good photo of one. I would especially like to get one of a male (gobbler) when he fans his tail and puffs up his feathers. The turkeys are very timid, and can run quite fast, so it may be awhile before I get some photos of them.

Apparently we had about 274 turkeys in Ontario in 1984, but this has since grown to over 30,000 by now. They can live to over 10 years in the wild.

My goal was to have a white background, and I had used auto for my white balance. This needed to be changed, but when you work in Camera Raw, you can change this.

This next photo has a loon feather included in it. My purpose for including it is to show the difference in size. The turkey feather is much bigger than the loon feather.

I enjoy the details in the feathers. Even though I don't think a turkey is the prettiest bird, it is interesting to look at the details on the feather. God has provided the turkey with some interesting details.

And More ...

I was going to do a different topic today, but when I was looking at my photos, I realized there were still a few of the frozen soap bubbles that I haven't posted, and would like to do so for my own records. These were done by blowing a bubble through a straw on to a surface, in this case, a mirror.

By the breath of God,
frost is given ...
